Festival of Roses Retreat
Santa Fe, New Mexico
May 1-3, 2015

"Come for the best of days, for a festival of roses,
for what only gets better.” -Rumi
In one of his many ecstatic poems Jelaluddin Rumi, in essence says Look, this isn’t the best of days, we all know that. But don’t go following your fear, what makes you sad. Take down your musical instruments, get some flowers together, let’s go to the Tavern, there will be music, dancing, plenty of good wine... No one comes out of this place with a sour face. They’ll all be cracking up, and soon the dancing will move into the streets. But don’t be embarrassed, the angels love this sort of thing.
In short, lovers of God get the picture that in the midst of turmoil (personal, social, global), when we’re in the Presence of the Holy, and we choose to hold on to that, we have a sanctuary inside, that fear or loss or sadness can’t get into.
This retreat is about being the Rose, any flower in the garden really, any green growing thing anywhere with a fierce love of life. Learning to be joyful, give thanks, and blossom in the midst of chaos, that’s the challenge and reward. Through ritual, dreams, prayer, movement, and group work, we will feel our way into the art of celebration. We’ll look at how to practice staying in the present, even if that means holding tension with an open heart, as we enter the Garden and prepare for a festival of roses.

Massage & Yoga
During retreats, when we are at times working at deep psycho-spiritual levels, bodywork is essential to help integrate body, mind, and soul. Peg Malone, CMT, Certified yoga teacher and massage therapist, will offer yoga each morning before breakfast. Bringing healing hands, and a heart of light, Peg will also offer therapeutic bodywork at break times throughout the weekend for a separate fee.
Sacred Movement
During this retreat, Kara Duval, LMT will guide participants through sensory practices to connect awareness with feeling and breath. Afterwards there will be a free form movement celebration (outdoors if the weather permits) with vocal and instrument exploration. Kara has spent her whole life in dedication to sacred movement. Learning about God and Divinity has always been woven with moving, singing, and spinning for her. She received a minor in Dance, following a 10 year practice of 5Rhythms/Embody Dance, and recently completed a Vinyasa Yoga Teaching Program in New Mexico.
What to Bring
A journal, a percussion/or musical instrument, any artwork, poetry, prose, or music in process. Also bring walking shoes, and if traveling by car, please bring a sleeping bag.
